Under The Trees

The Nest Stage

Tall Dwarf - 1130am

Local Tannum Sands artist, Craig Smith, has been performing his original acoustic tunes for many years as ‘Tall Dwarf’ along the QLD and NSW coast.  His open steel string acoustic playing style is rhythmic and powerful, with intricate riffs to support lyrical content both personnel and reflective of growing up in North QLD.  Tall Dwarf is a regular feature locally at Crow Street Creative and BAM.

The Threadz - 1245pm

Local original four piece, ‘The Threadz’, play an energetic and infectious blend of Blues and Reggae.  ‘The Threadz’ was formed at a party jam by members of NQ Funk/Reggae outfit ‘Pachooka’ and Gladstone region stalwarts ‘Swim’ and are regulars on the local music scene.

The Moonsets - 200pm

The Moonsets (formerly The Flumes) conjure up a lushly funky, dark and sparkling, intoxicating brew. Electric Harp pours out psychedelic melodies over stylin' rhythms laced with soulful vocals. Splashing out a luscious live sound, The Moonsets transcend genres leaving you spellbound in their wake.
Harper Kayt Wallace immerses herself in 36 strings of Electric Harp, artfully bending the organic tones of this ancient instrument with wah and delay stylings as her smoky vocals sweep from whispers to roars combined with the rich grooves of songwriting partner Stephan Beattie on Bass/Guitar and the playful rhythms of Andrea Joy Norden on skins.
Acknowledged with highly commended 4 times in the Blues & Roots, Folk and World categories of the QLD Music Awards, it’s difficult to pin these musical adventurers down to one genre. Let’s just say The Moonsets create an exquisitely eclectic subtropical blend of psychedelic folk laced with soul funk, blues, jazz and a splash of reggae but be prepared to have your preconceptions blown in the best possible way.

The Fergies - 315pm

Long-haired, barefooted, street-performing band The Fergies are a homegrown outfit committed to finding their own voice and sound through a catchy, toe-tapping original repertoire expressing their folk, rock and soul influences.

Since forming in late 2007 the award-winning family band has experienced a steady rise in momentum, playing for tens of thousands of people all over the country. Their rich five-part harmonies and irresistible, tambourine-shaking, guitar-strumming, folk-dancing, electrified energy have attracted a broad and uniquely loyal fan-base of all ages, genders and walks of life, drawn to The Fergies' and their vibrant original music.

They've shared the stage with Powderfinger on their farewell tour at the Caloundra Music Festival, and enjoyed a host of other major events and venues including Woodford Folk Festival, Brisbane's Riverstage, The Tivoli Theatre and The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The band has also taken out a host of national and state awards, and made multiple showcase appearances on national television.

From an early age Dan, Shani, Nathan, Joel and Kahlia Ferguson found themselves collectively inspired by influences that span styles as well as decades - the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, America, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, James Taylor, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and John Mayer.

To complement their face-to-the-camera online presence the band took their music to the challenging streets of Brisbane. Describing the motivation behind their street performing, Kahlia Ferguson explains, 'When you busk there's absolutely nowhere to hide. You face the crowd and deliver something engaging or people just ignore you. It keeps you grounded as a performer - gets you out from behind technology and connected to real people'.

With one foot rooted in the past and the other firmly planted in the future, The Fergies are emerging as one of Australia's freshest and most exciting creative units.

Lachy Doley is Australia’s most celebrated Blues Soul Rock Organ Player. He’s been dubbed the Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond Organ, a player who can pump, pamper and occasionally pound the most unbelievable sounds from a keyboard: sounds that are intense, ferocious and sometimes transcendent.
Lachy Doley has seen much of the world, recording and touring with acts as diverse as Powderfinger, Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai, Jimmy Barnes, The Beautiful Girls – more recently recording on a new album of Joe Bonamassa’s which came out in early 2015. It was 2010 though, that saw the birth of THE LACHY DOLEY GROUP and they have been heavily recording and touring ever since.
The group’s latest album CONVICTION has taken Doley onto the world stage reaching #5 on the UK Blues Broadcasters Charts, #1 on the Australian iTunes Blues Charts and #1 on the Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Charts. Along with the group’s 2 performances at the legendary BB Kings in Memphis in January, Doley has cemented himself as a world renowned Blues and Soul Artist
The Lachy Doley Group are a unique sound in the classic and sometimes very traditional genre of the Blues. A power trio consisting of Bass, Drums and of course Doley firing on the Hammond, his vocal screaming from the heart and the incredibly rare Hohner D6 Whammy Clavinet in which most people double take on when they realise that sound isn’t an electric guitar but a 70 stringed keyboard with a huge Whammy Bar sticking out the guts of it.
The Lachy Doley Group have played over 100 shows and festivals around Australia since the first release in 2011 including Queenscliff Music Festival, Mojo Burning Festival, Rock In The Vines Festival, PEAK Perisher Festival, Echuca Blues, Noosa Jazz, Mitchel Creek Rock&Blues and were the stand out hit at the Gold Coast’s Blues On Broadbeach Festival for the last 3 years running.
“If music storms existed on this planet, it might as well be Lachy Doley’s vocals and fiery instrumental performances you hear pulsating from cloud to cloud amidst flashes of lighting and claps of thunder” HEIDI LEIGH AXTON – Rhythms Magazine
“One of the greatest organ players of any generation” GLENN HUGHES (Deep Purple Mk3)
